Letters: Gun deaths higher in other countries

I have to question where Mana Hewitt gets her fact that gun deaths are 25 times higher here than in other developed countries (“Gun ad showed appalling judgment,” July 21).

Consider this partial list of gun deaths per 100,000, according to the World Health Organization: Honduras, 91.6; Jamaica, 52.2; Venezuela, 45.1; U.S. Virgin Islands, 39.2; South Africa, 31.8; Bahamas, 27.4; Brazil, 21.0; Mexico, 16.9; Indonesia, 8.1; Cuba, 5.0; United States, 4.2.

All of those countries except the United States have total gun bans.
