Letters: Apply gun standards to free speech

AP

Am I the only one who sees the utter ridiculousness of the July 15 letter, “Today’s guns were not anticipated”?

Can you imagine our Founding Fathers anticipating cell phones and the internet? Does our right to free speech end at the advent of technology? Semi-automatics are the end result of the advancement of modern weapons and have no capacity to kill without the human.

If you do not need a modern weapon, do you need 24/7 information capacity? Also ridiculous is faulting a tool or device that functions as designed but is used for a nefarious motive.

We must be careful about the rights we are willing to compromise.
