Letters: Lexington Medical Center doesn’t pressure doctors
As a primary-care doctor at Lexington Medical Center, I did not recognize the arrangement described in the July 23 article, “Lexington Medical settles civil fraud suit for $17 million.”
I have been employed at the hospital since 1998, and I have never been required to refer patients to the hospital for testing, either directly or implied. I am compensated for direct patient-care office visits. There is never compensation for referrals or tests ordered.
The hospital encourages providers to engage their patients in quality care at the best site for the patients’ needs.
