Letters: Hawk-killing trustee already got his leniency
Charles Williams, the USC trustee who pleaded guilty to killing red tail hawks and is appealing his sentence, has little defense to offer for his offense (“Hawk-killing USC trustee says he got bad deal from ‘bird lover’ judge,” Wednesday). The inhumane manner in which he allowed the birds to suffer while caged and then killed speaks volumes of his attitude toward the law.
It’s unfortunate that Mr. Williams won’t have to suffer while caged in addition to paying a rather lenient fine and an obviously needed requirement of community service in an avian wildlife facility. Perhaps he will serve as an example so there will be a finite number of people who would act as he did.
