Letters: New West Columbians will regret annexation decision

My little subdivision was railroaded into West Columbia by the promise of lower property and car taxes and lower water rates. We found out the hard way what the people around I-26 and U.S. 1 who just voted to be annexed are about to find out:

1. Your property taxes will be going up, not lowered; mine were raised about $150. Your water rates may be lowered for a short time, but they will go back up.

2. You will get very little police protection. We have tried unsuccessfully for months to get the city to work radar in our subdivision. In fact, a police car is seldom seen in here.

Once you are in, you’re stuck. You can’t get out of higher prices unless you move.
