A July 23 article told about four men — Ashley Dove, James Foust, Adrian Martin and Brandon Wilcox — who refused to evacuate during the October floods and instead stayed at the water treatment plant where they worked for five days, with little sleep and at personal risk (“Wastewater workers prevented sewage disaster during October flood”). Their actions prevented 150 million gallons of raw sewage from flooding Columbia and the Congaree River every day.

They are true heroes who prevented the damage from being immeasurably worse than it was. I call upon the governor to bestow upon them the Order of the Palmetto, and upon the General Assembly to likewise honor and recognize them in all the ways it can.
