Letters: Columbia Police officers’ actions should inspire us all

Columbia police officers Albert McLendon and David Goff need to be commended by the entire community for their courageous and selfless action in rescuing a potential suicide victim (“‘I love you, man’: Deputies save man from jumping off overpass,” Aug. 4). Truly inspiring.

In a day of cultural confusion about the rightful role of police, those of us in the Columbia community were enthralled by the quick, right reaction to assist a very troubled citizen. Lt. McLendon exhibited civic responsibility in the words, “I love you, man” in order to save a desperate individual.
