Letters: ‘Evolving’ books out of libraries? Seriously?

Books at the renovated Richland County Public Library will be displayed in popular browsing areas like a book store, and there will be more seating and working areas.

How refreshing to learn that the Richland County Public Library is disposing of books (“Evolution of Richland Library means fewer books but broader resources,” Aug. 13). It has always seemed silly to me to waste valuable meeting space with books. How passe.

We obviously need more space for the latest electronic gimmickry. I especially look forward to the Pokemon Go tournaments that will be held in our updated library.

How very thoughtful, also, not to make the thousands of books so kindly dumped on the library by the Columbia Museum of Art available to art lovers.

And how clever of library Director Melanie Huggins to single-handedly redefine the meaning of the word library. Huzzah!
