Letters: Richland Rec Commission problems not about race
Race has nothing to do with the known concerns at the Richland County Recreation Commission (“Legislators urge Recreation Commission members to work with them amid probe,” July 19). The public has a legitimate right to accurate information, and black members of the legislative delegation should not protect what should not be defended.
I am black, but my lay and professional opinion tells me the allegations of this sort cannot be tolerated in any publicly funded organization. Competent black leadership should be the norm. Black managers and leaders should be held to the same standard as people of any other race. It is a travesty that the leadership on the commission has allowed this disaster to happen and is now hiding behind the due-process argument.
