It didn’t take Chase Atkinson long to make up his mind.

Days after picking up an offer from Syracuse, the Blythewood cornerback committed to the Orange on Wednesday. Atkinson attended a camp at Syracuse over the weekend and then met with head coach Dino Babers.

Atikinson informed the Orange coaches of the decision Wednesday morning.

“Syracuse is absolutely amazing and the environment was very family oriented,” Atkinson said. “The coaching staff, faculty and I built a great relationship over the past week. During camp ,coach Ward and McCloud loved my competitiveness during drills and 1 on 1s.”

Atkinson is Syracuse’s 14th commitment for the Class of 2020.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound Atkinson can play both cornerback and safety. Last season, he had 24 tackles with a team-high two interceptions and eight pass break-ups.

Atkinson returned one of his interceptions for a touchdown against Sumter.

“Chase is an unbelievable kid. He has worked very hard to put himself in a great situation,” Blythewood coach Jason Seidel said. “In my opinion I think Chase is one of the best defensive backs in the state. He has the ability to shut down the top receivers.

“Syracuse did a tremendous job recruiting Chase. They built a strong relationship with him throughout this process. I think it’s a great fit.”
