Tar Heels dodge weekend sweep to Clemson, 8-7
The North Carolina baseball team overcame a 4-0 deficit to defeat Clemson 8-7 on Sunday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium to avoid a weekend sweep.
The Tigers (16-15, 7-8 ACC) jumped to a 4-0 lead thanks to Chris Okey’s three-run homer in the first inning and Tyler Slaton’s run-scoring double in the second inning.
The Tar Heels (18-13, 7-8) rallied with three runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth inning and another run in the fifth inning to take a 5-4 lead. Tyler Ramirez added a three-run homer in the top of the seventh.
Benton Moss (5-0) earned the win, as he allowed eight hits, six runs and two walks with three strikeouts over six innings. Trent Thornton pitched the final two innings to record his fifth save of the season.
Tigers starter Brody Koerner (3-4) gave up seven hits, five runs and no walks with six strikeouts in five innings.
