Five remaining football recruiting targets for Clemson in 2018
Clemson has already signed the majority of its recruiting class, including five-star prospects Trevor Lawrence, Xavier Thomas, KJ Henry and Jackson Carman. Here is a look at five remaining targets Clemson hopes to sign in February for the 2018 recruiting class:
1. Justyn Ross
The Alabama native is a big, physical wide receiver who also possesses good speed. He is rated as the No. 59 overall player and No. 10 receiver in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. In-state schools Alabama and Auburn are the main competition to sign Ross, who took his official visit to Clemson the weekend of The Citadel game. Ross, who is listed at 6-foot-4, was being recruited to Alabama by assistant Derrick Ansley. Ansley is reportedly headed to Colorado State to serve as the defensive coordinator. The loss of Ansley could hurt Alabama and could be a boost for Clemson.
2. Matthew Hill
The Georgia native is currently committed to Auburn but will reportedly take official visits to Auburn and Clemson before making a final decision. Hill is committed to Auburn as a receiver but is being recruited by Clemson as a safety. His addition would be a big one for Clemson, particularly after junior safety Van Smith opted to leave early for the NFL draft. Hill is rated as the No. 99 overall player in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings.
3. Dax Hollifield
The linebacker from Shelby, N.C., held a top five of Stanford, Virginia Tech, North Carolina, Florida State and South Carolina dating back to the summer but is no longer considering South Carolina or FSU. In place of those two schools he has added Clemson. Hollifield received his first offer from Clemson in January of 2015 but was not heavily recruited by the Tigers over the past couple of years until recently. He is rated as the No. 8 inside linebacker and No. 138 overall player in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Hollifield is believed to be leaning toward Stanford but could take a visit to Clemson before making a final decision.
4. DJ Brown
The Virginia commit and Washington D.C. native was offered by Clemson last week. Brown is rated as a three-star cornerback and the No. 1,168 overall prospect in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings, but he has an impressive offer list that seems to grow every day. In addition to Clemson, Brown has been offered by South Carolina, Nebraska and Louisville recently. Brown is reportedly planning to take an official visit to Clemson this weekend, which should give the Tigers plenty of momentum.
5. Olaijah Griffin
The California native is rated as the No. 4 cornerback and No. 31 overall player in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Griffin is being pursued by most of the top programs in the country, including Southern Cal, Alabama and Oklahoma. He decommitted from UCLA last month. Landing Griffin is a bit of a long shot for Clemson, but if the Tigers can get him on campus for an official visit they will be in the conversation.
