Recruits Clemson is still pursuing with signing day just days away

Signing day is set for Wednesday, Feb. 7 and Clemson is still pursuing several prospects to add to its recruiting class.

1. WR Justyn Ross

One of the top receivers in the nation, Ross is deciding between Clemson and in-state schools Alabama and Auburn. Ross took an official visit to Clemson in November and has had the Tigers near the top of his list throughout the recruiting process. He is rated as the No. 7 receiver and the No. 45 overall player in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. The 247Sports crystal ball predictions are 71 percent for Alabama, 25 percent for Clemson and 4 percent for Auburn. The past 16 predictions have all been made for Alabama, but don’t discount Clemson. Ross will announce his decision on Feb. 7 during the 1 p.m. hour on ESPN2.

2. DB Patrick Surtain Jr.

The top cornerback in the country according to the 247Sports composite rankings, Surtain took an official visit to Clemson the last weekend in January. The Florida native is rated as the No. 6 overall prospect in the country and is a heavy lean to LSU, according to the crystal ball, with 92 percent of the predictions being for him to land at LSU. It would be a big surprise if Surtain signs with Clemson, but Dabo Swinney and his staff have pulled off big surprises before. Surtain will announce his decision on Feb. 7 on ESPNU in the 10 a.m. hour.

3. DB Trevon Flowers

The late-emerging prospect landed a Clemson offer last week and has been on official visits to Clemson and Tennessee over the past five days. Flowers, who attends Tucker High in Tucker, Ga., is rated as the No. 84 safety and No. 1,028 player in the country, according to the 247Sports composite rankings. There has been one prediction made in the crystal ball and it is for Clemson. Flowers is also a baseball prospect and is looking to play both sports in college.

4. OL Richard Gouraige

The longtime Florida commit began exploring his options during the coaching change in Gainesville and took an official visit to Clemson in the middle of January. Gouraige has also taken recent official visits to Auburn, Florida and Ole Miss. The Gators remain the favorite and have 76 percent of the crystal ball predictions for the No. 7 tackle and No. 81 overall player in the country.

5. DB Mario Goodrich

The Missouri native received an offer from Clemson in the middle of January and took an official visit there the last weekend in January. Goodrich, who is rated as the No. 114 overall prospect in the country, is listed as an athlete but is being recruited by Clemson to play defensive back. Goodrich also holds offers from LSU, Georgia, Florida and several others. LSU is viewed as the favorite on the crystal ball with 53 percent, while Clemson has 21 percent.

6. LB Dax Hollifield

It has been a wild recruiting process for Hollifield, who had a longtime final five of North Carolina, Virginia Tech, Stanford, South Carolina and Florida State before some schools left the mix and Clemson entered late in the process. Clemson was Hollifield’s first offer before the Tigers backed off. Clemson has tried to get back in the mix late and joins Virginia Tech, Stanford and North Carolina as Hollifield’s finalists. The Shelby, N.C. prospect is rated as the No. 8 inside linebacker and No. 150 overall player in the country. Virginia Tech leads the crystal ball predictions with 46 percent, followed by Stanford with 38.

7. DB Leon O’Neal

The Texas native announced Sunday morning that he will be committing on Monday before signing on Wednesday. O’Neal took an official visit to Clemson in January and is down to a final four of Texas A&M, Clemson, Oklahoma and Georgia. He was previously committed to Texas A&M before decommitting in December. He is expected to commit to the Aggies again on Monday as 95 percent of the crystal ball predictions are for Texas A&M. O’Neal is rated as the No. 8 safety and No. 75 overall player in the country.
