Clemson draft tracker: Jarrett to Falcons; Pinion to 49ers; Steward to Bills

Clemson defensive tackle Grady Jarrett was selected Saturday in the NFL Draft’s fifth round by the Atlanta Falcons.

He was taken with the first pick of the fifth round, or No. 137 overall. The Falcons traded up to get Jarrett, who also played at Rockdale County in Conyers, Ga.

Jarrett had 73 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, 12 quarterback pressures, two caused fumbles and one recovered fumble in 530 snaps over 13 games as a senior at Clemson. He was the team’s top interior defensive lineman, one of the team’s best leaders and one of the team’s strongest players in 2014.

Pinion picked by 49ers

Clemson punter Bradley Pinion, who entered the NFL Draft after his junior season, was selected in the fifth round by the San Francisco 49ers. Pinion was taken with the 29th pick of the round, or 165th overall.

The 6-foot-6, 240-pound Pinion averaged 42.6 yards per punt, which was the fifth-best in the ACC. Pinion on kickoffs had 102 touchbacks in 178 career kickoffs.

Bills select Steward

Clemson linebacker Tony Steward was selected by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round. He was taken with the 12th pick of the round, of 188th overall.

Steward was hampered by injury during most of his career, but he emerged as one of the Tigers’ best defensive players in 2014 with 73 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, a team-high 13 quarterback pressures and one pass breakup.
