Clemson slugs its way past Virginia Tech, earns series sweep

Clemson finished off a three-game series sweep of Virginia Tech with a 12-9 victory over the Hokies on Sunday afternoon in Blacksburg.

The Tigers pounded out 13 hits in Sunday’s victory and finished with 32 runs scored during the three-game series. Clemson is now 22-6 (9-3), while Virginia Tech falls to 16-12 (4-8).

The Tigers scored six runs in the first inning on Sunday and never looked back.

Bryar Hawkins got Clemson on the board with a two-run single in the first inning, before Bo Majkowski followed with an RBI double to push the lead to 3-0. Bryce Teodosio added a three-run homer later in the frame to give the Tigers an early 6-0 lead.

Logan Davidson, Hawkins, Majkowski and Teodosio each had two hits for the Tigers. All nine Clemson starters had at least one hit in the win.

Clemson reliever Holt Jones earned the victory, allowing two runs in three innings pitched. Virginia Tech starter Jack Dellinger suffered the loss, surrendering six runs in 2/3 of an inning.

The Tigers earned a 6-4 victory in Game 1 of the series with freshman Davis Sharpe earning the win. Sharpe allowed two runs, one earned, in six innings of work.

Grayson Byrd was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and two RBIs in the Game 1 win.

Clemson blasted Virginia Tech 14-1 in Game 2, getting an outstanding performance from starter Mat Clark. He allowed two hits and one run in six innings.

Sam Hall, Byrd, Hawkins, Majkowski and Sharpe each had two hits for the Tigers in the middle game.

Clemson returns to action on Tuesday when the Tigers host Georgia at 6 p.m.
