Clemson pitcher announces he has cancer
Clemson pitcher Clate Schmidt took to Twitter on Tuesday with some sobering news.
The junior from Acworth, Ga., announced that he has nodular sclerosing lymphoma. (Lymphoma is cancer of the lymph nodes.)
According to the Lymphoma Research Foundation, what Schmidt has is the most common subtype of Hodgkin lymphoma. “The majority of patients are cured with current treatments,” according to the foundation’s website.
In 18 appearances this season, including six starts, Schmidt was 2-3 with a 4.67 ERA. He was fourth on the team with 52.0 innings pitched. He is the older brother of South Carolina pitcher Clarke Schmidt.
Well I thought I should inform everyone of what God has set in front of me to conquer this year….
