Clemson salvages win but drops third-straight ACC series
The good news: Clemson rallied to take an 11-7 win over Georgia Tech on Sunday.
The bad news: The Yellow Jackets won the series. It marked the third-straight ACC series loss for the Tigers, who went 5-12 overall in the month of April.
Clemson scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning Sunday at Russ Chandler Stadium in Atlanta. Justin Hawkins’ two-run homer in the eighth inning tied the score. Grayson Byrd followed with a three-run homer in the same frame.
The Tigers had trailed 7-3.
The Yellow Jackets (30-14, 15-9 ACC) won the series 2-1 after taking 8-7 and 13-8 victories in the first two games.
Clemson (27-18, 12-12) has won four of its eight ACC series and concludes conference play against N.C. State and Wake Forest.
The Tigers face Gardner-Webb in a two-game series this coming weekend. Clemson hosts the Runnin’ Bulldogs at Doug Kingsmore Stadium on Saturday at 3 p.m., then travel to Shelby, North Carolina, at 2 p.m. Sunday.
