Clemson freshman defensive lineman leaves school
Clemson freshman defensive lineman Logan Cash’s time at Clemson is done without ever playing in a game.
Cash has left school, Tigers coach Dabo Swinney announced Monday morning. Cash was dealing with a back injury and was expected to redshirt in 2019.
“He was going to be out this year and had surgery, but he has decided to withdraw from school. So I wish him all the best for sure,” Swinney said.
The Georgia native was rated as a three-star recruit by the 247Sports Composite rankings coming out of high school.
Swinney said during the spring that he was impressed by Cash.
“Logan Cash, probably the best we’ve got with his hands. He’s explosive power, great with his hands. But still has a lot to learn,” Swinney said.
Injury news
Clemson is relatively healthy entering Thursday night’s opener against Georgia Tech with only linebacker Bryton Constantin and receiver Amari Rodgers expected to be out.
Constantin and Rodgers are both recovering from torn ACLs, with Rodgers expected to return before Constantin.
“Amari is doing great, looks awesome,” Swinney said. “He’s really made drastic improvements and doing a lot of stuff in practice. Feel good about his progress but definitely will be out this week for sure.”
Receiver Frank Ladson and tight end Davis Allen were battling injuries towards the end of fall camp but both are expected to be full-go on Saturday.
Sorting out starters
Three of the four starting defensive line spots are still up for grabs entering the opener.
Two out of three of Xavier Thomas, Logan Rudolph and Justin Foster will start at defensive end, and either Tyler Davis or Jordan Williams will start alongside Nyles Pinckney at defensive tackle.
Swinney said that as a whole the group is doing great but is still a work in progress.
“I mean it’s like we’re changing a lot of diapers. It’s like when babies are born they don’t just know how to go to the bathroom. They don’t know how to walk. They crawl,” Swinney said. “We’ve gotta kind of help them along. And then we’ll figure it out. Eventually they’ll be potty trained. They’ll figure it out. But some walk sooner than others. I think we’ve got a talented group, but we’ve gotta go play and figure it out from there.”
