Clemson sweeps ACC Player of the Year awards

Clemson swept the ACC Player of the Year awards released Wednesday morning, and Tigers running back Travis Etienne made history in the process.

Etienne was named the ACC Player of the Year and the ACC Offensive Player of the Year, while Isaiah Simmons was voted the ACC Defensive Player of the Year.

This is the second consecutive season Etienne is the ACC Player of the Year. He is the first running back to repeat as the ACC Player of the Year since North Carolina’s Mike Voight did so in 1975-76.

Etienne received 22 votes for the ACC Player of the Year, while Virginia quarterback Bryce Perkins was second with 11. Simmons finished third with 10.

Etienne received 28 votes for the Offensive Player of the Year, while Perkins was second with 12. Boston College running back AJ Dillon and Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence tied for third with 9 votes.

Simmons received 42 votes for Defensive Player of the Year. UNC linebacker Chaz Surratt was second with 4.

The ACC Player of the Year awards were announced the day after the Tigers dominated the All-ACC team.
