Clemson adds a sixth offensive lineman to 2020 recruiting class
Clemson Friday night landed a commitment from Birmingham offensive lineman Trent Howard (6-foot-4, 283 pounds), the sixth offensive lineman committed for the class that now has 21 total. Howard had been committed to Georgia Tech until he got the Clemson offer. He announced a decommitment from the Yellow Jackets Thursday night and a commitment to the Tigers Friday night.
Howard had a connection to Dabo Swinney through his father, who was teammates with Swinney at Alabama in the early 1990s. He visited Clemson last spring. Besides Clemson and Georgia Tech, some of the other listed Power Five offers for him are Boston College, Louisville, Miami, Mississippi State and Wake Forest.
Howard joins an offensive line class for Clemson that also includes John Williams of Canton, Georgia, Walker Parks of Lexington, Kentucky, Paul Tchio of Alpharetta, Georgia, Mitchell Mayes of Raleigh and Bryn Tucker of Knoxville, Tennessee. The six offensive lineman signed in the class equal the total of offensive lineman the Tigers signed in the last two classes combined.
Howard plans to sign with the Tigers on Dec. 18, the first day of the early signing period.
