Clemson has 4 of the best players in college football, ESPN says
ESPN released its list of the top 50 players in college football on Friday morning, before bowl games start Friday afternoon, and Clemson is well-represented on the list.
The Tigers have four players included, with all four being ranked in the top 20.
Quarterback Trevor Lawrence leads the way for Clemson, coming in at No. 4. The sophomore has 3,172 passing yards, 34 touchdowns and eight interceptions on the season. He has 20 touchdowns and no interceptions in his past six games.
Lawrence is behind only LSU quarterback Joe Burrow, Ohio State defensive end Chase Young and Buckeyes quarterback Justin Fields on ESPN’s list. Wisconsin running back Jonathan Taylor rounds out the top five.
Other Clemson players on the list include linebacker Isaiah Simmons at No. 7, running back Travis Etienne at No. 13 and receiver Tee Higgins at No. 18.
Simmons leads Clemson in tackles with 93, tackles for loss with 14 and sacks with seven.
Etienne has rushed for 1,500 yards and 17 touchdowns and is averaging 8.2 yards per carry.
Higgins is averaging nearly 21 yards per reception and has 52 catches for 1,082 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Clemson will face Ohio State in the Fiesta Bowl on Dec. 28 with a spot in the national title game on the line.
