Who’s performing the halftime show for Clemson-LSU national championship game

After a few years of a Super Bowl-style halftime act, college football is getting back to tradition for the biggest game of its season.

LSU and Clemson will meet Monday night in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome for the national championship. Each school’s respective marching bands will then perform at halftime. While that’s been the case the last two College Football Playoff title games, those watching ESPN were shown a concert — and not the marching bands.

In 2018, at intermission of Alabama-Georgia at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Kendrick Lamar performed nearby at Centennial Olympic Park. In 2019, at intermission of Alabama-Clemson at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, Imagine Dragons and Lil Wayne performed 45 minutes away on Treasure Island.

This time the big musical names will be featured before the game.

Concerts connected to the game begin Saturday and run up to before Monday’s kickoff.

Performing Saturday at the AT&T Playoff Playlist Live! stage in New Orleans’ Woldenberg Park (a 13-minute drive from the Superdome): Two-time Grammy winner H.E.R., rap icon Nas and MAX, a multi-platinum Sony recording artist.

Performing at the same spot Sunday: Grammy winner Meghan Trainor, Bastille and Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue.

On Monday, the space is renamed “Capital One Stage at Allstate Championship Tailgate Plaza” and country star Tim McGraw performs alongside alt-rock bond Judah & the Lion.

Contemporary Christian singer Lauren Daigle will perform the “The Star-Spangled Banner.” Daigle is a Lafayette, Louisiana, native

Halftime will feature LSU’s “Tiger Band” and Clemson’s “Tiger Band.”

Monday’s intermission will also include, per the CFP, a “special presentation” to celebrate the end of college football’s 150th season.
