Clemson defensive lineman announces plans to transfer
Clemson defensive lineman Xavier Kelly is searching for a new home.
Kelly announced Saturday afternoon that he is entering the transfer portal and leaving the Clemson program. The redshirt junior will be a grad transfer and will be immediately eligible at his new school.
“I would like to thank my coaches, teammates, and the entire Clemson family for all of the love and support they have provided me over the last few years,” Kelly said as part of a statement. “With that being said, I have decided to enter the transfer portal and continue my football career elsewhere.”
Kelly played in 10 games for the Tigers this season and recorded nine tackles and a pair of quarterback pressures. He arrived at Clemson as a four-star recruit and the No. 100 overall prospect in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.
The Kansas native also played in 10 games last season, recording nine tackles, including a sack.
“I have never shied away from hard work or a challenge. My time at Clemson was a challenge I happily accepted,” Kelly said. “I would like to thank all of the Clemson fans for sticking with me through this ride and supporting me through all of my decisions.”
Kelly is the second player this offseason to announce intentions to transfer, joining backup quarterback Chase Brice.
In addition to those two, Clemson also has three players that are turning pro early in Tee Higgins, A.J. Terrell and Isaiah Simmons.
Clemson running back Travis Etienne announced Friday that he is returning for his senior season in a surprise decision.
