Deshaun Watson, Trevor Lawrence the odds-on favorites to be Patriots QB in 2021
The New England Patriots need a long-term answer at quarterback with NFL legend Tom Brady expected to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason. Two Clemson star QBs — one current and one former — are the favorites to provide stability at the quarterback position for New England beginning in 2021.
Current Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson, who led Clemson to a national title in 2016, is the favorite to be the Patriots starting quarterback in 2021, according to popular gambling website sportsbetting.ag. Watson is +300, meaning 3-to-1 odds. Current Tigers star Trevor Lawrence is tied for the second best odds, along with current Patriots QB Jarrett Stidham. Stidham and Lawrence are both +500 (5-to-1 odds).
Other possibilities listed for the Pats in 2021 include current Florida QB Kyle Trask (7-to-1), Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (9-to-1) and Colts QB Jacoby Brissett (11-to-1).
Watson was selected by the Houston Texans in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft with the No. 12 overall pick. He led the Texans to the playoffs each of the past two years and has one year remaining on his rookie contract.
There is speculation that Watson could want out of Houston after the Texans traded his favorite target and close friend DeAndre Hopkins earlier this month.
Lawrence is expected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL draft, and the Patriots could opt to “tank for Trevor” in 2020 with Brady moving on and no proven starter on the roster for 2020.
