Clemson in final 5 for nation’s top quarterback

Clemson has a history of landing top quarterbacks from around the country, and the Tigers are in the running to do so again.

Five-star quarterback Caleb Williams, the top QB in the country for 2021, released his top five on Monday and Clemson made the cut.

The Tigers are joined by LSU, Maryland, Penn State and Oklahoma.

Williams, a Washington D.C. native, is rated as the No. 5 overall player in the country by the 247Sports Composite rankings. The Tigers have already landed a commitment from the No. 1 overall player in the country for 2021 in defensive end Korey Foreman out of Corona, California.

Clemson signed the top pro-style QB in the country in 2020 in California native D.J. Uiagalelei. The 6-foot-5, 245 pounder enrolled early and participated in nine spring practices before Clemson was forced to end spring workouts due to the coronavirus.

The Tigers signed the top QB in the country in 2018 in quarterback Trevor Lawrence. The Georgia native, who was also ranked as the No. 1 overall recruit for the class of 2018, led Clemson to a national title as a freshman.
