Top prospect in the nation, Clemson commit looking at taking other visits

Corona, California defensive end Korey Foreman — the nation’s top-ranked prospect in the 2021 class and a Clemson commitment since Jan, 26 — apparently is growing antsy with the condition that he can’t take other official visits while committed to the Tigers.

That has been a Dabo Swinney policy since the Tigers became successful enough to implement it. Swinney is batting nearly 100% with his commitments over the last five years, but Foreman (6-4, 260) could become an exception.

“I feel like I’ve earned them,” Foreman said of his five official visits. “I’ve talked to the coaches and they have explained how they feel about it. They let me know what would happen if I did take a visit. There are some things I need to think about, but that isn’t my main focus. My main focus is the first game of my senior season.”

One of the few Clemson commitments in recent years to decommit for the purpose of other official visits was linebacker Shaq Smith. He eventually signed with Clemson and spent three seasons with the Tigers before transferring after the 2018 season.

Foreman said if he takes the same route as Smith, he will continue to give the Tigers strong consideration, just like Smith did.

“They would still be recruiting me, so yes I would want to go there,” Foreman said. “The relationships I have with the coaches there. Everything is real there, and I knew when I got there that it was a great place. I loved talking to the coaches and they have a record of putting guys in the league. So I have some things to think about, but really my focus is on my high school season.”

Foreman also took unofficial visits prior to his commitment to Southern Cal, UCLA, Oregon, Georgia, Alabama and LSU. The hometown appeal of Southern Cal, where one of his close friends is a Trojan, could weigh heavily on Foreman’s ultimate decision.
