Trevor Lawrence or Joe Burrow? Fox Sports host says: ‘It’s not even close.’

Joe Burrow and LSU might have gotten the best of Trevor Lawrence and Clemson in the national championship game in January, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that Burrow will be better than Lawrence at the next level.

Fox Sports radio host Colin Cowherd recently discussed whether or not Lawrence or Burrow is the better pro prospect and said the choice is an easy one.

Lawrence is expected to be the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, while Burrow went No. 1 overall in the 2020 draft last month.

“Downgrading Trevor Lawrence because he lost to probably the best college football team ever makes no sense,” Cowherd said, adding that people he talks to around the NFL don’t believe Burrow is the better pro prospect.

“Not a single GM I know thinks that. Not one.”

Burrow had arguably the greatest season of any college football QB ever in 2019, passing for 5,671 yards and 60 touchdowns, with six interceptions, while completing better than 76 percent of his passes.

Lawrence passed for 3,665 yards, 36 touchdowns and eight picks last season, but Cowherd believes the disparity in numbers is due in part to the disparity in talent between the two teams.

“High school? Not close. I saw Trevor Lawrence play in high school. He’s bigger than Burrow, stronger, better arm, bigger hands, better athlete. Everything,” Cowherd said.

Cowherd also pointed out that Burrow is 23-years-old, while the rising junior Lawrence is only 20.

Lawrence also has a better body of work, putting together impressive seasons as a freshman and sophomore. Burrow did not begin putting up big numbers until his redshirt senior season.

“Trevor Lawrence was so good that he goes to Clemson, the coaching staff says, ‘Kelly Bryant you’re 12-2 last year. Sit down. The 19-year-old’s better.’ Trevor is just 20 now. At 19 he walked into a program that was on fire. That had won a national championship. Here’s Kelly Bryant he goes 12-2 the next year. They sat him for a 19-year-old,” Cowherd said. “As a freshman, Trevor Lawrence: 30 touchdowns, four picks. No redshirt year, just go play. It’s not close.”
