Clemson-The Citadel: What’s at stake

1. Clemson can extend its record for the nation’s longest active home winning streak, which currently sits at 22 games entering Saturday. The Tigers are 41-4 at home since 2014.

2. Clemson can remain undefeated against FCS teams with a victory. The Tigers enter the matchup with a 34-0 all-time record.

3. The Tigers have won 30 consecutive regular season games, with their last regular season loss coming at Syracuse in 2017. Clemson’s streak is presently tied with the 2013-15 Florida State Seminoles for the most in ACC history. A 31st straight regular season win would give Clemson sole possession of the longest such streak in conference history.

Clemson players to watch

1. Clemson freshman D.J. Uiagalelei won Clemson’s backup QB job during fall camp and should get extended playing time in what is expected to be a blowout on Saturday. Uiagalelei has a strong arm and has been described as advanced for a freshman. He is likely to take over for Trevor Lawrence next year.

2. Freshman defensive end Myles Murphy had three tackles for loss and a paif of sacks in his college debut against Wake Forest. The Georgia native will be counted on to be disruptive up front against The Citadel’s option offense.

3. Speaking of strong debuts — freshman defensive tackle Bryan Bresee was all over the field against the Demon Deacons and finished with a pair of tackles, half a sack and a blocked field goal. Clemson has a couple of defensive tackles banged up heading into this week, including All-ACC performer Tyler Davis. Watch for Bresee to have a strong game in his home debut.

The Citadel players to watch

1. Senior quarterback Brandon Rainey carried the ball 20 times last week against USF, finishing with a team-high 65 rushing yards. Rainey led the Bulldogs with 900 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns in 2019.

2. Willie Eubanks III had a team-high 12 tackles, three tackles for loss and a sack in the opener against the Bulls. He was also The Citadel’s leading tackler last season with 112, which if 41 more than anyone else on the team.

3. The Citadel doesn’t pass the ball often, but when it does it is usually for a big gain. Ryan McCarthy was the leading receiver for the Bulldogs last Saturday, finishing with two catches for 44 yards. He was second on the team in receiving with 11 receptions for 197 yards last year.
