5-star Clemson freshman running back enters transfer portal
One of the top members of Clemson’s 2020 recruiting class is on the move.
Five-star freshman running back Demarkcus Bowman has entered the transfer portal, a Clemson spokesperson confirmed Thursday afternoon.
“Demarkcus has entered the portal after informing our coaches of his intention to transfer,” Clemson Assistant Athletic Director for Football Communications Ross Taylor said.
Bowman was ranked as the No. 20 overall player in the country and the No. 3 running back in the nation by the 247Sports Composite rankings coming out of Lakeland High in Lakeland, Florida. He rushed for 5,081 yards over three years in high school, while averaging 11.4 yards per carry.
The Florida native was compared by Dabo Swinney to Clemson legend C.J. Spiller during preseason camp. The State reached out to Bowman but did not hear back.
Bowman carried the ball nine times for 32 yards the first two games of this season. He was a part of a crowded running back room that included two-time ACC Player of the Year Travis Etienne. Bowman was also competing with Lyn-J Dixon, Darien Rencher, Chez Mellusi, Michel Dukes and Kobe Pace for carries.
Bowman chose Clemson over his other finalist Florida in May of 2019. He was one of five five-star recruits the Tigers signed for the class of 2020.
