Clemson freshman quarterback Will Taylor is out for the season after a knee injury sustained Saturday against Boston College.

Dabo Swinney confirmed Monday evening that Taylor tore his ACL. It was a non-contact injury, Swinney said. After a no-gain on a rushing attempt during Clemson’s first drive of Saturday’s game, Taylor limped to the sideline and didn’t return.

“He’s a resilient young man,” Swinney told reporters. “We’ve had a lot of success with guys getting back around here. You look at Amari Rodgers tore his ACL right there in the spring, and 4 1/2 months later, he was playing against Georgia Tech in the opener.”

Taylor is also a member of Clemson’s baseball team. He signed with the Tigers as a two-sport athlete out of Dutch Fork High School.

“Hopefully, Will will be able to get back and get some of the baseball season in this spring,” Swinney said. “No doubt he’ll come back better than ever.”

Taylor totaled 104 all-purpose yards in five games played this year for Swinney’s team, 64 of which have come from punt returns.

Other injury updates

Wide receiver Justyn Ross and tight end Braden Galloway also exited Saturday night’s contest after getting hit in the head. Both are in concussion protocol. Swinney said Galloway was a little more concussed, while Ross was placed in protocol as a precaution.

“With his situation, obviously they’re going to be very cautious with him, but he’s good,” Swinney said alluding to the congenital fusion in Ross’s spine.

Linebacker Malcolm Greene, who sat out of the NC State game with an injury, was available against Boston College but held out while battling a shoulder injury. Swinney called the sophomore a tough kid and said he’s been practicing.

Wide receiver Frank Ladson and cornerback Mario Goodson are working through groin injuries and fellow corner Fred Davis is looking to heal up a rolled ankle.

“Anticipate all those guys being ready to go, but we’ll see where we are at the end of the week,” Swinney said.

Offensive lineman Will Putnam is improving from a toe injury. The Tigers (3-2) are hoping to get him back by Sunday, which will be a short week due to the Friday game at Syracuse on Oct. 15 following this week’s bye.
