Clemson target Tre Lamar shortens decision timeframe
Linebacker Tre Lamar of Roswell, Ga., is holding with the same top five he has had for sometime: Clemson, Auburn, Alabama, Florida and Florida State.
His last visit was to Auburn for the Big Cat Weekend (“It was a great experience”) and his next visit will be to Clemson on July 17 for the All-In Cookout. He also has visited his other favorites. As for any other visits, Lamar said he’s not sure on any at this point.
Lamar said he talks regularly with Clemson defensive coordinator Brent Venables, mostly through Twitter.
“We’ve been talking thru Twitter just about kind of what it’s like at Clemson and stuff like that,” said Lamar, who has visited Clemson four or five times. He added that the social visits like Big Cat Weekend and the All-In Cookout are as important to him than those visits built around the recruiting process.
“It’s big for me because I’ve been to Auburn, Alabama and Clemson multiple times and seen everything, all the facilities and gotten the coaches’ viewpoint about where I would play on the defense. I’ve got all the football aspect and it’s big for me to be able to see how it would be day to day. Talk with the coaches and see the lighter side of it is definitely a big thing. One of the top things I’m looking for in a school is me being comfortable so just seeing things that I like definitely helps.”
Having seen all of his favorites, Lamar is thinking he might not drag out his decision into his season. He previously had planned to take official visits before a decision, but that may not be necessary.
“I’m definitely whittling it down right about now,” he said. “I don’t have a specific date or anything but I feel like it will be done before the season starts. I’ll probably just put it on Twitter.”
Of his top five schools, Lamar said Clemson, Alabama and Auburn are recruiting him the hardest.
“I’ve been talking with those coaches, Coach Venables, Coach Smart and Coach Muschamp all the time. Definitely those three,” he said.
