Clemson adds four-star quarterback Christopher Vizzina to Class of 2023
Clemson picked up its second commit from the Class of 2023 in Briarwood Christian four-star quarterback Christopher Vizzina from Alabama.
The 6-foot-4, 207-pound signal caller announced his decision Tuesday afternoon. Vizzina is the seventh-ranked quarterback in the class as well as the state of Alabama, the No. 52 overall prospect in the nation and was invited to the Elite 11 Finals on April 3. Current Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik competed in the event and was the first Tigers commit to be named the MVP. Fellow Tigers signal caller D.J. Uiagalelei was also invited, but did not compete.
The Alabama native chose Clemson over schools like Georgia, Auburn, Notre Dame, Ole Miss and Ohio State. According to Maxpreps, Vizzina threw 2,065 passing yards with 16 touchdowns and four interceptions while completing 68.4% of his passes, leading the Lions to a 10-2 record as a junior. He’s drawn comparison to Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mitch Trubisky by 247Sports national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna.
“(Vizzina is an) above average passer that has the ability to develop into a good passer at the next level,” Petagna wrote. “Provides a threat with his legs, not only as a runner, but with his ability to extend plays outside the pocket and throw off platform. Projects to a multi-year Power Five starter at the next level. Will need two years to develop before seeing credible playing time.”
Clemson turned its attention to Vizzina after being eliminated from five-star quarterback Arch Manning’s college choice contention. Vizzina will join a quarterback room this time next year that’ll include Uiagalelei, who will be a senior in the fall of 2023, and Cade Klubnik, who will be a sophomore.
The Tigers’ only other commit for the Class of 2023 at the moment is Nathaniel Joseph, a four-star wide receiver from Miami.
