Clemson football had success with one member of the Terrell family and will have a chance with another.

Westlake (Ga.) High school defensive back Aveion Terrell committed to the Tigers and Dabo Swinney’s program on Monday. He is the younger brother of former Clemson standout and 2020 NFL first-round pick A.J. Terrell, who plays with the Atlanta Falcons.

Terrell is the fifth Clemson commit for the Class of 2023. He picked Clemson over Texas A&M, Auburn, Kentucky and Michigan State. South Carolina also was one of his offers but didn’t make the final five schools he released on April 23.

Clemson offered Terrell as a freshman, which is a rarity for Swinney and the Tigers’ coaching staff. He had his official visit with Clemson over the weekend.

“”They told me they offered Trevor Lawrence going into his 11th grade year. They offered Deshaun Watson going into his 10th grade year, so as a sophomore. So I’m the only one out of all the 2023s and 2022s to get offered in 9th grade,” Terrell told 247Sports in 2020.

247Sports Composite ranks Terrell as a four-star recruit and top 300 nationally. He started as a freshman and had five interceptions in 2019.

Last year, Terrell had 44 tackles and two interceptions.
