Clemson beats national champion Georgia for coveted linebacker prospect
Clemson has another elite prospect in its wings.
Five-star linebacker Sammy Brown announced his commitment to the Tigers on Monday evening. Brown is rated the No. 14 player and No. 2 linebacker in the 2024 class, per the 247Sports Composite.
The Georgia native chose Clemson over offers from UGA, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Ohio State, among others. Brown visited Tennessee at the end of May and then Clemson over the weekend. He canceled the rest of his visits.
Brown visited Clemson at least seven times over the last year. He was the first player Dabo Swinney offered for the Class of 2024.
“For the last two and a half years, I have been blessed with the privilege of building relationships with the finest men in college football,” Brown wrote in an announcement on Twitter. “I’ve taken dozens of visits t great campuses across the country, spent many nights in conversation, and watched some incredible football along the way. To all of you who have shared your lives with me, I am forever grateful and I will always cherish the opportunities you afforded me.”
Brown is tied for the 10th-highest rated recruit to choose the Tigers in the modern recruiting era alongside 2018 signee K.J. Henry. As a junior, Brown recorded 113 tackles, five tackles for a loss and four pass breakups. He also noted 1,459 yards and 21 touchdowns on 181 carries at running back.
Clemson’s 2024 class now includes five players from Georgia. Brown is by far the highest-rated of the bunch, however four-star defensive lineman Hevin Brown-Shuler (No. 205 nationally in the 247Sports Composite) was also heavily sought after.
Brown is the second top-100 player to choose the Tigers during this recruiting cycle along with tight end Christian Bentancur (No. 83 nationally in the 247Sports Composite).
