DE Xavier Kelly still high on Clemson after visit

Defensive end Xavier Kelly of Wichita completed the first half of his weekend recruiting doubleheader Saturday morning at Clemson and then hit the road for the short trip to Athens for Georgia’s Dawg Night activities.

Kelly left Clemson uncommitted, which was planned on his part because he won’t make a public commitment until the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January. But the trip kept Clemson among Kelly’s favorites.

“It was great,” Kelly said. “I got the opportunity to meet some of the players and the current commits. I got a chance to talk with the coaches and we all had a good time.”

Kelly said he spent most of his time with coaches Brent Venables and Marion Hobby.

“They were just telling me nothing but great things about Clemson and giving me a lot of good reasons why I should go there,” Kelly said. “They really need me and I’m in a perfect position to come at this time. I love everything about Clemson. It’s a family environment and they are all about academics. They really care about their players outside of football.”

The Georgia visit Saturday night will be the last of the summer for Kelly. He also has Alabama, Florida State, Michigan, Kansas State, Oregon and TCU on his list and he said his favorites are in no order. He will take official visits from that list and he said Clemson will get one.
