Clemson has landed a late quarterback commitment for the 2024 class.

J.L. Mann senior quarterback Ethan Anderson has committed to the Tigers, he announced Thursday on the platform X (formerly Twitter). Anderson will be joining the 2024 roster as a preferred walk-on, he confirmed to The State.

Anderson led J.L. Mann (located in nearby Greenville) to an 11-3 record in his final season and threw for 3,172 yards and 42 touchdowns. He also had a PWO offer from FCS Furman and scholarship offers from Division II North Greenville and FCS Presbyterian College, per his social media.

Clemson did not sign a scholarship quarterback for 2024, a sign of coach Dabo Swinney’s confidence in junior starter Cade Klubnik and Christopher Vizzina, his redshirt freshman backup. Swinney mentioned in December the team might look into bringing in another quarterback as a PWO to add depth to the room.

With Anderson’s commitment, Clemson will have five quarterbacks on its roster for 2024: Klubnik, Vizzina, Anderson and fellow walk-ons Trent Pearman and Colby Shaw. Paul Tyson, last year’s third-stringer, will work as a student coach but stay in shape as an emergency option.

The Tigers’ quarterback depth behind Klubnik had taken a hit after veteran backup and Columbia native Hunter Helms transferred at the 2023 season. Helms has since committed to FCS Rhode Island.
