Clemson vs. Florida State Vegas odds
Clemson is currently favored by 15 points against Florida State, according to the VegasInsider.com consensus line.
That’s quite the point spread for a game that was considered an ACC heavyweight duel in the preseason but has lost a fair amount of hype since.
This will be Clemson’s fourth straight game as a betting favorite of at least 15 points. The Tigers were favored by 17 points against App State, 17 points against N.C. State and 24 points against Stanford — and covered all three of those point spreads.
Weather forecast for Tallahassee
After Hurricane Helene made a late turn away from Tallahassee, the city (and the university) avoided major damage. The forecast for Saturday (initially rainy) has also cleared up considerably.
The current projection, per Weather.com: Cloudy with a low of 73 degrees and a 24% chance of rain, plus light winds.
Top storylines for the game
Alas, there won’t be a DJ Uiagalelei rematch. Florida State coach Mike Norvell confirmed earlier this week that Uiagalelei, who spent his first three years at Clemson before transferring, has a finger injury and will miss “a couple games,” including Saturday’s. FSU will roll with redshirt freshman Brock Glenn at quarterback instead. Uiagalelei was Clemson’s primary starting quarterback for two seasons and was 22-6 with the Tigers but transferred after losing his job to Cade Klubnik in the ACC title game. He spent the 2023 season at Oregon State.
Speaking of Klubnik: He’s been on an otherworldly run as a junior. The former five-star recruit has 16 total touchdowns in his last three starts (12 passing, four rushing). Klubnik is also tied for sixth among FBS quarterbacks in total touchdowns responsible for (Miami’s Cam Ward is No. 1 with 20). It’s even more impressive when you consider the fact Klubnik and Clemson were shut out of the end zone entirely in Week 1.
Clemson is trending positively in terms of injuries. The big name to watch out for this week is star defensive end Peter Woods, who has missed the last two games recovering from a leg/knee injury stemming from a chop block play. Coach Dabo Swinney said Wednesday that Woods has “practiced every day” (it’s unclear in what capacity) and they hope he can go against FSU. Outside of that, wide receiver Troy Stellato is banged up but receivers Antonio Williams and Tyler Brown, defensive tackle DeMonte Capehart, and offensive lineman Collin Sadler have all returned from minor injuries and will be ready to play.
FSU’s poor record this season — as the defending league champion and preseason pick to win it again in 2024 — has put a dimmer on this game, as has the Seminoles’ quarterback situation (Glenn, in two starts, hasn’t inspired much confidence). But Florida State has one of the best special teams units in the country, and that can change a game in an instant. Their punter averages 49.8 yards per game (No. 1 nationally); their kicker is one of only three kickers nationally with multiple makes from 54-plus yards; and special teams ace Shyheim Brown has already blocked two field goals this year.
Clemson vs. Florida State players to watch
Clemson WR T.J. Moore: The former five-star recruit made his first career start last week and has six catches for 105 yards and a touchdown this season. Could he have a big game playing back in his home state?
Clemson LB Sammy Brown: Despite zero starts and limited snaps, Brown is first on the team with 5.5 tackles for loss and third with 23 total tackles. He’s been a breakout star already and will only improve.
Florida State RB Lawrance Toafili: With an inexperienced starter at quarterback, FSU will lean on Toafili heavily. He has 214 of the team’s 326 rushing yards this year and has carried the ball 32 times over the past two games.
Florida State DE Patrick Payton: A starter and NFL Draft prospect, Payton had a career-high 3.5 tackles for loss and three sacks two weeks ago against Cal.
