The Tony Elliott rematch is set.

The ACC announced on Monday morning a kickoff time and TV channel for next weekend’s Clemson-Virginia football game, which will pit the Tigers against the former offensive coordinator who helped them win two national championships.

The Tigers will kick off against the Cavaliers in Memorial Stadium at noon on Saturday Oct. 19, the conference announced. ACC Network will televise the game.

The No. 10 Tigers are 4-1 (3-0 ACC) heading into a road game at Wake Forest, and the Cavaliers (4-1, 2-0 ACC) host Louisville on Saturday.

Next Saturday will be Elliott’s first game back in Death Valley since he accepted Virginia’s head coaching job in December 2021.

It’ll also be the first time Clemson has faced an opposing head coach who was previously a Clemson head coach or assistant coach in 12 years.

Elliott, a former Clemson wide receiver from 1999-2003, spent 11 years as an assistant coach for the Tigers from 2011-21 and was the co-offensive coordinator for the school’s 2016 and 2018 national title teams.

Elliott, who’d turned down other Power 4 jobs in previous cycles at Clemson, left after the 2021 regular season to become Virginia’s coach after Bronco Mendenhall resigned from the job. He and Clemson coach Dabo Swinney (who was Elliott’s position coach at Clemson in 2003) remain close to this day.

The Tigers are 27-22-2 all time against opposing head coaches who were once Clemson head coaches or assistant coaches. The matchup with Elliott will be the program’s first against a former coach since beating former Clemson grad assistant Gene Chizik’s Auburn team in their 2012 season opener.

Elliott’s Virginia team is trending up in his third year, having already won more games in 2024 (four) than it did in during the entire 2022 season (three) or 2023 season (three). The Cavs are just two wins away from bowl eligibility.

Clemson, meanwhile, reappeared in the top 10 of the AP poll for the first time since the 2023 preseason this week after beating Florida State on the road (and making Swinney the ACC’s all-time wins leader with 174).

The Tigers have now won four straight games and three straight conference games after a 31-point season-opening loss to Georgia and currently have sole possession of first place in the ACC. Next Saturday will be their first home game in three weeks.
