Another Clemson basketball guard entering the NCAA transfer portal
Another Clemson basketball guard has entered the transfer portal.
Tigers guard Jake Heidbreder entered the portal on Thursday, The State has confirmed. On3 Sports was the first to report the news of Heidbreder’s departure.
He is the team’s fifth overall portal departure and third from a scholarship player playing at least 10 minutes per game, joining G Del Jones and F Chauncey Wiggins.
Heidbreder, an Air Force transfer, spent two seasons with Clemson. He redshirted his first season because of injury before appearing in 32 games this year. He averaged 4.1 points per game off the bench and shot 37.3% on 3-pointers.
Heidbreder (6-foot-5., 180 pounds) had an up-and-down redshirt junior season. He was expected to provide the Tigers with a scoring boost off the bench and occasionally got hot from 3-point range.
But he only played 14 minutes per game, had four games of 10-plus points and shot a career low percentage from deep. His 28 threes were the fifth most on the team.
With Heidbreder’s departure, Clemson faces a major roster overhaul heading into 2025-26. He is the fifth Tiger to hit the portal since Monday, joining guard Jones, forwards Wiggins and Asa Thomas and walk-on center Jackson Roberts.
Between players out of eligibility and players departing via the portal, coach Brad Brownell’s Clemson program is now losing nine of its 15 scholarship players from last year’s team. The Tigers won a school-record 27 games and 18 ACC games before losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
