Swinney on new rules committee
Clemson coach Dabo Swinney is one of three active FBS head coaches named to the new College Football Officiating Competition Committee, a group which will be tasked to examine Division I football's playing rules.
The 12-member committee also includes head coaches David Shaw of Stanford and Nevada’s Brian Polian, according to cbssports.com’s Jon Solomon. The committee will be chaired by Alabama athletic director Bill Battle.
The group, which recently held its first conference call, will meet after the regular season. The committee, which was championed by former SEC commissioner Mike Slive, will take a big-picture view of college football's rules like the NFL's competition committee does in pro football.
Other members include: Warde Manuel: Connecticut AD; Bill Carollo: Big Ten officiating coordinator; Edward Stewart: Big 12 senior associate commissioner; Bob Gennarelli: MAC deputy commissioner/chief operating officer; Bob Stull, UTEP AD; Charlie Cobb: Georgia State AD; Sean McDonnell: New Hampshire coach; and Ron Strollo: Youngstown State AD.
