Clemson softball vs. Texas in NCAA super regionals: Schedule, TV, top storylines
For the third time in four years, Clemson softball is in the super regionals.
The Tigers are the No. 11 overall seed in the field and went a perfect 3-0 in NCAA regionals games this weekend to win the Clemson regional championship.
Now they’re headed west to take on an SEC school, much like their football team.
Clemson (47-12) will play a best-of-three super regional at No. 6 Texas (49-10) in Austin from Thursday to Saturday, the NCAA announced on Monday. The winner of the Austin Super Regional advances to the Women’s College World Series.

Clemson softball at a glance
Clemson is making its third super regional in the past four years (2022, 2023) and its fifth straight NCAA Tournament appearance since the program began in 2020.
The Tigers, coached by John Rittman, went a perfect 3-0 in regional play over the weekend. Clemson run-ruled USC Upstate in its opening game Friday before beating Northwestern 1-0 in extra innings on Saturday and Kentucky on Sunday.
Clemson got offense from a variety of players — including freshman shortstop Marian Collins, who had the go-ahead RBI single to drive in a teammate in the top of the ninth innings vs. Northwestern — and strong pitching all weekend.
ACC Pitcher of the Year Reese Basinger and top reliever Brooke McCubbin combined to allow their opponents just three total runs all weekend.
Texas softball at a glance
Texas, which competes in the country’s premier softball conference, also had little issue on the opening weekend of the postseason. The hosting Longhorns cruised past Eastern Illinois, Michigan and UCF to finish 3-0 and advance to the supers.
Texas’ average margin of victory in those games was 9.6 runs.
The Longhorns, who are in their inaugural SEC season, are making a sixth straight super regional appearance. Star Texas pitcher Teagan Kavan threw a complete-game, seven-inning shutout against UCF on Sunday to secure the win.
UT’s Reese Atwood had 13 RBI over the weekend, which set a new program record for a regional. The Longhorns led the SEC in batting average this season (.361).
Football connection
If this trip is giving Clemson fans déjà vu, it’s for good reason.
On Dec. 21, the Tigers football team also traveled to Austin and played at Texas in a postseason game. The Longhorns beat Clemson, 38-24, in a first-round College Football Playoff game at Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Clemson softball’s opening super regional game at Texas will be on May 22 — almost five months to the day since the football team played its road game at Texas.
Adding to the weirdness: Clemson’s football and softball teams both won the ACC championship this year, and their seeding matchups are nearly identical. Clemson-Texas football was a No. 5 vs. No. 12 matchup; softball is a No. 6 vs. a No. 11.
