Clemson women’s basketball home game postponed. Here’s what we know
A Clemson women’s basketball home game has been postponed because its opponent is experiencing weather-related travel issues.
The Tigers’ Tuesday home game against Louisiana Monroe won’t be played as expected due to ULM “travel issues,” the team announced Monday afternoon.
The game had been scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday at Littlejohn Coliseum.
A ULM team spokeswoman told The State that the team was unable to travel to Clemson as planned Monday because of a flight issue.
There is inclement weather in the central United States that’s impacting flights and has caused nearly 3,000 flight delays as of 2 p.m. Monday, per FlightAware.com’s Misery Index that tracks delays and cancellations.
Wind, rain and thunderstorms have caused notable delays and/or cancellations at major airports including Dallas-Forth Worth (36% of outbound flights delayed) and Houston (19% of outbound flights delayed). ULM’s campus in northern Louisiana, and surrounding areas are within range of that inclement weather.
There was also a lack of additional travel options for ULM to make the trip, per a Clemson team spokesman. A bus ride from Monroe, Louisiana would take over nine hours and gotten the team to Clemson less than 24 hours before tipoff.
This is also the start of Thanksgiving week, one of the busiest travel weeks of the year in the United States.
Mid-season basketball game postponements or cancellations are far more rare than football and baseball game postponements or cancellations, since the latter two sports are mostly played outdoors and can be affected by weather.
Although ULM’s team website lists the Clemson game as “canceled,” Clemson said in a news release that the schools are “working to reschedule the game for a later date to be announced.” The game is listed as “postponed” on Clemson’s site.
Clemson also said fans who bought tickets for the game can exchange them for another home game by contacting the athletic department’s ticket office.
Coach Shawn Poppie and the Tigers are off to a 4-2 (0-1 ACC) start. They are traveling to Nassau in the Bahamas this weekend for the 2025 Baha Mar Hoops Championship. Clemson women’s basketball will play Western Carolina on Thursday followed by Temple or Michigan State on Sunday.
