Clemson women’s basketball’s ACC Tournament path is set.

Coach Shawn Poppie’s Tigers are the No. 9 seed in the tournament and will play their opening game against No. 8 Virginia on Thursday at 11 a.m. The ACC Tournament is being held at Gas South Arena in Duluth, Georgia outside Atlanta.

If Clemson beats Virginia in its opening second-round game, it would face No. 1 seed and ACC regular-season champion Duke in the Friday quarterfinal round.

Clemson enters the ACC tournament in rare position. Bracketologists almost unanimously consider the Tigers a safe bet to make the NCAA Tournament, which would be only Clemson’s second NCAA appearance in the past 24 years.

The Tigers finished the regular season at 20-10 and 11-7 in the ACC after losing 85-50 on the road Sunday at Stanford. Clemson’s 20 wins are its most since 2018-19, and its 11 ACC wins are second most in program history (12 in 1997-98).

Poppie’s team was widely considered a bubble team before upsetting then-No. 9 Duke at home last week in the team’s home finale. The Blue Devils had entered that game 15-0 in conference play and had won 17 straight games since Dec. 4.

Entering Sunday, ESPN bracketologist Charlie Creme projected Clemson as a No. 10 seed in the tournament. The Tigers are also projected as No. 10 seed by CBS Sports and USA Today Sports. Selection Sunday is in two weeks on March 15.

It’s to be determined how Sunday’s 35-point blowout loss at Stanford, in which Clemson allowed a season-high 85 points to a team that entered 7-10 in league play, impacts the Tigers’ potential NCAA seeding.

Clemson lost on the road 73-63 in its lone game against Virginia, its opening ACC Tournament opponent, on Jan. 1. Duke, Clemson’s likely second-round opponent, finished the regular season losing two of its last three games to Clemson and UNC.
