Gallman shines once again
Wayne Gallman continues to be Clemson’s workhorse.
Gallman carried the ball a career-high 31 times in the Tigers’ 56-41 win at N.C. State on Saturday, resulting in 172 yards.
That represented the second-highest rushing total of Gallman’s career, trailing only a 191-yard game in last year’s victory against South Carolina.
The effort pushed Gallman’s season rushing total to 874 yards, leaving him just 126 yards shy of becoming the 13th different player in Clemson history to have a 1,000-yard rushing season.
Standing tall
Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson sacked N.C. State quarterback Jacoby Brissett for a 5-yard loss with 12:25 left in the third quarter, giving him at least one tackle for loss in every game this season. He has 14.5 tackles for loss this season, including 6.5 sacks.
Linebackers B.J. Goodson and Ben Boulware, who lead the team with 77 and 70 tackles, respectively, each had 10 tackles against the Wolfpack. Goodson had three tackles for loss and a forced fumble while Boulware added two tackles for loss.
Advantage Brooks
Running back Zac Brooks continues to capitalize on his opportunities. The senior running back has just 27 “touches” this season, but has scored five touchdowns – three rushing and two receiving. His latest score came on a 35-yard weaving catch-and-run with one minute left in the third quarter that gave Clemson its largest lead of the night at 47-27.
Career day
Freshman wide receiver Hunter Renfrow had a career day, setting personal bests in receptions (four) and yards (93). His effort was highlighted by a 57-yard touchdown catch.
Taking its time
N.C. State entered the game ranked third nationally in time of possession at 35 minutes per game. But Clemson turned the table on the Wolfpack, controlling the ball for 34:04 to N.C. State’s 25:56 thanks to a solid rushing game and several lengthy, time-consuming drives. Clemson had 240 yards rushing, marking the sixth time this season the Tigers have eclipsed 200 yards in a game. Last season Clemson rushed for 200 yards just four times in 13 games.
