Rex Ryan wears Clemson helmet in tribute to No. 1 team
Dabo Swinney’s friend Buffalo Bill coach Rex Ryan wore a Clemson helmet Tuesday during a press conference. Ryan explained he was supporting the nation’s top-ranked team and the best holder, his son Seth.
“He’s crazy. He is hilarious,” said Swinney during his weekly media briefing. “I love Rex Ryan. Whether you like him or don’t like him, he is who he is.
“He’s a real guy. He’s passionate about what he does.”
A walk-on wide receiver, Seth Ryan learned to hold as kid around NFL camps.
“Seth’s a pretty good little ol’ wideout, too,” Swinney said. “Seth’s smart. He can play any of the three positions. He’s fast. He runs well. He’s got great ball skills.”
Swinney credited Ryan with helping with the seamless transition on kicks from new snapper Jim Brown and first-year kicker Greg Huegel.
“He’s done a great job for us. We’ve had a couple of high balls, a lot of wet balls in rain,” Swinney said. “He’s been part of the success we’ve had. Replacing our entire battery was a concern coming into the season.”
Rex Ryan has been a frequent visitor to Clemson since Seth Ryan enrolled and also said, “If you want you son to be coached by the best coaching staff in the country, take them to Clemson.”
Swinney said he appreciated the sentiment.
