Clemson commit Cornell Powell spurs Tar Heels in Shrine Bowl
Spartanburg running back Tavien Feaster was disappointed with South Carolina’s 54-39 loss to North Carolina Saturday, but he also liked what he saw from a future teammate.
Wide receiver Cornell Powell, out of J.H. Rose High School, stole the show at the Shrine Bowl in the first half. He caught four passes for 54 yards and a touchdown and returned a kickoff 98 yards for another score. For the game he averaged 68 yards on three kickoff returns while helping the Tarheels to their first victory in four years.
“I wanted to win with South Carolina vs. North Carolina, but seeing him do his thing out here today, I wish nothing but the best for him on the next level,” Feaster said. “I know he’s going to work hard, and I know we’re going to be a great team down at Clemson.”
Powell, who’s a four-star recruit, said it felt good to play well on a big stage.
“It means a lot to be able to come out here and do what I’ve been doing all year against other great talent,” he said. “It really helps my confidence going into next year when I’m going to be at Clemson. It’s an experience that I’ll never forget.”
Feaster also had a solid game, finishing with 14 carries for 55 yards and a touchdown. He also caught three passes for 11 yards.
“It was just an honor to play in the game,” Feaster said. “The experience to play with all these division one guys coming out and playing their hardest was great. All these guys deserve every accolade they’ve ever got. It was an honor and a blessing.”
