Clemson could be next to offer Upstate DB

South Carolina was the first Power 5 conference school to offer defensive back Lummie Young (6-2 195) of Westside, and Clemson may not be too far behind.

Rams coach Scott Earley, based on his recent conversations with recruiter Brent Venables, was thinking that offer might come Tuesday, but it didn't. Young is going to Clemson for junior day Saturday and the lifelong Tiger fan would love for it to happen then, if not earlier.

"It would mean the world to everybody in my family," Young said. "There would be pretty much an immediate commitment. I'm not sure if they are going to offer Saturday but I hope so. I'm trying not to get my hopes up too much."

His feelings for Clemson aside, Young is also excited over the offer from the Gamecocks.

"It meant a lot because of all the hard work I've put in throughout the years," Young said.

He's not made a recruiting visit to USC but did camp there last summer. He's planning to talk to Will Muschamp on Wednesday.

Young also has offers from Miami of Ohio, Coastal Carolina, Charlotte and Old Dominion.

Last season he made around 70 tackles with eight interceptions playing free safety.
