Clemson basketball offers pair, including son of Tiger great
Clemson basketball coach Brad Brownell took advantage of Senior Night in Greenville to offer a pair of young prospects including the son of one of the Tigers' all time greats.
Brownell had 2017 6-foot-3 point guard Mike Okauru of Raleigh and 2018 6-foot-5 shootign guard Sharone Wright Jr. at Tuesday night's game against Virginia on unofficial visits and offered both while they were there. Okauru also has an offer from Rutgers and is drawing interest from Virginia, N.C. State, East Carolina, Wake Forest and Xavier.
Wright Jr. is a Clemson legacy whose father played for the Tigers in the early 90s and became a NBA first-round draft pick. He also has offers from Georgia, California and Duquesne but admitted Tuesday night the Clemson offer was special.
"Getting the offer from Clemson was a great feeling," Wright Jr. said. "They really treat me like I'm apart of the basketball family and they always take care of me and my family when I'm in town. Knowing a place like Clemson wants you to play on their team in 2018 is great. It's really a good school."
Wright Jr. said Clemson has been his only visit but he will take more. He has also talked with South Carolina recruiter Matt Figger and said he'll wait and see what develops there. He has not developed a plan for making a decision but thinks it will come during his senior season.
"As of right now, I don't really have any favorites," Wright Jr. said. "I've always wanted to go to Duke since I was really small but all of my options are open."
This season Wright Jr. averaged 17 points, six assists and six rebounds per game.
