Seminoles overwhelm Tigers
Fourth-ranked Florida State broke Sunday afternoon’s game open with four runs in the fifth inning on its way to an 11-2 victory over Clemson to even the series 1-1 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
The Tigers (27-15, 10-13 ACC) struck first, scoring on Reed Rohlman’s run-scoring double in the first inning. The Seminoles (29-12, 14-5 ACC) took a 3-1 lead with two runs in the third inning, then extended their lead with two runs in the fourth inning and four runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by Ben DeLuzio’s two-run single.
Seminole starter Drew Carlton (5-2) pitched 7 1/3 innings to earn the win, allowing seven hits, two runs and four walks with four strikeouts. Clemson starter Clate Schmidt (5-3) took the loss, yielding five runs (three earned) on seven hits in 3 2/3 innings pitched.
The series concludes Monday at 7 p.m. on ESPNU.
