Clemson basketball targeting Baylor, UNC Asheville transfers

Clemson's basketball program has become a safe haven for transfers as coach Brad Brownell has effectively tapped into that blossoming market. Four of his players for this coming season started their careers at another major college. And Brownell is about to host two more transfers for official visits in the next week or so.

First up with be 6-foot-11 Chad Rykhoek, formerly of Baylor. He is going to visit Georgia Tech Thursday and Clemson Friday. He's a native of Fort Worth, Texas who signed with the Bears in 2012. He sat out his first season as a redshirt then missed the following season with injuries. On June 22, 2014 Rykhoek announce he would not longer be a part of the Baylor team due to medical reasons. Now, apparently, he's healthy enough to give basketball another try.

Dylan Smith, a 6-foot-5 guard, is coming off a strong freshman season at UNC Asheville in which he averaged 13.5 points per game and realized the Big South isn't big enough for his game. He is looking for a spot in a more high-profile league. And he said he will visit Clemson one day next week.

"They offered me a scholarship and I should be going on a visit there sometime next week," Smith said from Arizona Tuesday night where he is on another official visit. "I'm very interested in them as they are in me. I'm taking all my visits and weigh out my options so they definitely have a chance as everybody else does."

Smith also has visited Virginia Tech and he said he's also looking at NC State, Texas A&M and Connecticut for possible visits.

Smith is a native of Alabama and played his early years of high school ball in Mobile before moving to Hoover for his senior year.
